Contest 5: Totally Awesome Toaster TAT

Totally Awesome Toaster Contest

THE TAT CONTEST
The Totally Awesome Toaster toasts in watts and seconds, not kilowatts and minutes, and tastes great!
ABSTRACT: TOTALLY AWESOME TOASTER
Can you imagine applying new technology to make toast in a fraction of the time and energy? Imagine modulating the toaster beam, browning some areas more than others, creating logos…

The Contest…

Is just getting started. It’s up to you to define the rules and help find team members, sponsors and manufacturing partners.

Understanding Toasternomics

The Romans brought the idea of toasting bread back from Egypt about 500 B.C. The word “toast” comes from the Latin “tostum”, which means “to burn or scorch”. (1)

Imagine you’re excited about micro hydropower and you have a small stream that will make 500 watts. But your toaster uses 1,000 watts so you immediately discard the idea. Wrong answer.

If you combine a battery with your micro hydropower generator you suddenly have an excellent solution to make toast, but it takes a while.

The little micro hydropower generator + battery combo hums away 24 hours a day, and after just one day it has made and stored 12 kilowatt hours of electricity.

500 continuous watts per hour times 24 hours equals 12,000 Watt hours. Dividing by 1,000 you get 12 Kilowatt hours, or 12 KWh.

My toaster takes 3 minutes to make toast. It uses 1,000 Watts, or 1.0 Kilowatt when running. 1 Kilowatt for 3 minutes is 0.05 kilowatt hours.

After waiting just one day your micro hydropower generator + battery combo has made and stored enough electricity to make 240 slices of toast!

The TAT Contest

Americans are impatient and many are addicted to instant gratification. That creates demand in the free market, and our TAT (Totally Awesome Toaster) contest goal is to replace 120-year-old, kilowatt brute force, phenomenally wasteful, infrared, red hot wire, electrocute you in a heartbeat, old school toaster technology with whatever inventors come up with to make toast in a 10th the amount of energy, and do it in 30 seconds, not three minutes.

Some of us just can wait, just plug your new TAT toaster into your little Micro hydrogenerator + Battery he matching next generation BaconMaster nano cooker (See below). It also cooks hotdogs in record time.

Just 30 seconds later you have bacon and toast and are TOTALLY off the grid. Kind of gives you goosebumps, doesn’t it?

I wonder how much faster we can cook hotcakes with the new technology. Could come in real handy on Mars, or here on Earth if the Big One hits….

Addendum

The contest has hardly started and there is a major new development. Recent research has shown there are existing similar products that can be added to the TAT family product tree. Could increase sales by an order of magnitude.

From Wikipedia:

Similar inventions. Can you imagine a Hot Dog Toaster taken to the TAT technology level?

An “Old school” hot dog toaster is a variation on the toaster design; it can cook hot dogs without use of microwaves or stoves. The appliance looks similar to a regular toaster, except that there are two slots in the middle for hot dogs, and two slots on the outside for toasting the buns. Or there can be a set of skewers upon which hot dog are impaled.[citation needed]A white toaster with red handles

Can you imagine a combo unit that heats frozen chili packets, toasts hog dog buns, and zaps the hotdogs at the same time? In less than 30 seconds, while in zero G? Less than 100 watts using TAT technology? Ready to enter the contest? Send us an email at: energy@fourmars.com
